Cabane d Estarous

Cabane d’Estarous is an unguarded mountain shelter (cabane ouverte) above Luz-Saint-Sauveur in the French Pyrenees, set around 1,660 m. Use is free and it works on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservation or fee process. It’s a small option for basic overnighting, traditionally shared between hikers and shepherds.

The shelter provides a fireplace and firewood, with water nearby; fireplace use is meant to be supported by leaving usable wood for the next party. Plan for self-sufficiency: bring a sleeping bag and expect mountain conditions to change quickly, since shelter services can be intermittent.
