Alpine hutCabane de Coumets is a free, unstaffed mountain bivouac shelter in the Hautes-Pyrénées, used as an emergency/trail shelter rather than a commercial lodge. It’s typically occupied by shepherds in summer, so plan around quiet, respectful cohabitation.
Inside, there’s a sleeping area on a mezzanine and a wood/pellet stove, plus a table. A water supply is available via a tap at the hut that can be intermittent, and there is also water further out at the exterior.
Use is first-come, first-served: bunks and floor space can’t be reserved. Expect no booking, no fees, and no caretaker services; bring your own sleeping bag/gear appropriate for unstaffed shelters and plan for wood supply being limited (smaller fuel rather than big logs).
