Cabane de la Béranne
Cabane de la Béranne is a small, unmanaged mountain refuge in the Valgaudemar area of the Écrins National Park heart zone, used as a backcountry stop without any advance booking. Use is free and first-come; you’re expected to keep the hut clean and leave it in good order for the next party, including tidying up after yourself.
Sleeping space is limited to 2 designated places on wooden sleeping platforms (bring your own sleeping system—no mattresses or blankets are provided). A wood-burning stove is present for cooking/warming; there is no drinking-water setup guaranteed year-round, but water is as usually available close to the hut (about 100 m down the path).
The hut has no latrines. Expect limited firewood availability in the core high zone, so plan how much fuel you’ll want to use and avoid taking extra beyond what you need.
