Cabane de l'Alpette
Cabane de l'Alpette is a non-guarded backcountry shelter in the Chartreuse, run by the commune of Chapareillan. It’s set up for around 20 overnight sleepers on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations).
Plan on bringing your own sleeping setup: mattresses/bedding are not guaranteed, and there’s no reservation system to secure a place. The hut includes a wood stove and an interior mezzanine sleeping area. Access is free (no overnight fee). It sits inside the Réserve naturelle des Hauts de Chartreuse, where dogs are strictly prohibited (even on a leash), and rules also ban open fires and camping outside the hut. Nearby water sources exist, but they may freeze or be unavailable at times; there’s no drinking water provided at the hut itself.
