Cabane de l'Aoulhet
Cabane de l'Aoulhet is a free, unmonitored backcountry cabin in the Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre area, open all year. Use is first-come, first-served (no reservation is required). Inside, the main room has a wood stove plus benches and tables, and the sleeping area includes a mezzanine with several places to sleep; part of the cabin is reserved for shepherd use on the west side.
The building is having been rebuilt and enlarged in 2017. It has a fireplace (wood stove), and there is an outdoor water point nearby; treat water before drinking. A communal expectation applies: keep the space clean, remove your trash, and replace any firewood you use so the next visitors aren’t left short. The cabin sits around 1,165–1,166 m in altitude in the Pibeste-Aoulhet natural reserve.
