Cabane de l'Écuelle

Cabane de l’Écuelle is a non-guarded backcountry hut at about 2228 m in the Vars area. It’s a simple shelter with 4 sleeping spots arranged as 2 bunks plus 2 sleeping “lengthwise,” intended for self-reliant overnights rather than staffed refuge service.

The hut is equipped with a stove/heat source (a wood stove and a fireplace are) and it’s has no mattresses or blankets; bring your own bedding and supplies. Use is free and it’s first-come, first-served since there’s no reservation process for this unstaffed refuge. Water is around 200 m downhill in the direction of the Col de Vars, so plan to carry filtration/purification.
