Cabane de Malentraz

Cabane de Malentraz is a free, unstaffed mountain refuge in the Ecrins National Park. It’s a first-come, first-served stop for backcountry overnights, with space for about 6 people to sleep at roughly 1,610 m.

Facilities are basic: there’s a wood stove, and it has outdoor cooking/BBQ capability and some basic kitchen utensils. Bring a sleeping pad; there are no proper mattresses and no running water on site, and there’s no shower.
