Cabane de Stor Aften
Cabane de Stor Aften is a non-guarded wilderness cabin at 1,595 m in the Bornes-Aravis massif near La Clusaz. It’s an open, basic shelter built by volunteers, with no window/door described and very limited internal condition—plan for sheltering, not comfort.
The cabin has space for four mattresses (in poor condition) and a large terrace. There’s a designated fire area/wood storage, but no potable water is available at the cabin. For access, reach it from Col de la Croix Fry by following the trail toward the frêtes, then turning left and continuing through woods.
Use is free and there’s no booking system; if you arrive and the shelter is full, you’ll need to bivouac or move on. It’s a practical option when you want a rustic stop on multi-day trips in the Aravis/Bornes area.
