Cabane des Carteaux

Cabane des Carteaux is a backcountry hut in the Vercors area near Autrans. Use is free and it’s accessed without booking: it’s an unstaffed shelter intended for hikers who arrive on their own schedule.

Basic hut facilities are limited; there’s no drinking water provided at the shelter, and open fires are not set up there. Plan to carry your own water and fuel and treat nearby springs/sources as variable, especially in dry periods.

The hut sits in a protected zone with park-style rules; respect local restrictions that can strongly limit or prohibit open fire practices. It’s also closely associated with the Camp 3 resistance history in the area, with the shelter connected to winter quarters used during World War II.
