Cabane des Chalances

Cabane des Chalances is a free, unstaffed backcountry hut in France’s Alps. It’s a cabane non gardée (unmanaged shelter) with no advance booking; use is first-come, first-served.

The hut sleeps about 8 people and includes basic furnishings such as a table and benches. Bring your own sleeping system and food, and plan to be self-sufficient; there’s no bedding supplied, and there’s no running water/service implied by the hut setup. Access is typically approached by hiking from Basse rRua or Val d'Escrins.
