Alpine hut

Cabane des Chalanches is a non-staffed backcountry hut at 1,806 m in the Belledonne massif above Allemond. It’s used as an overnight stop where you arrive self-sufficient: bring your sleeping gear, food, and water-purification, since there are no services like a resident caretaker.

The hut is equipped for about 8 people to sleep on mattresses (with 3 covers provided). Cooking heat is available via a stove, and the ground floor includes a table and electrical outlets; a small kitchen inventory is stored in cupboards. Water is not from a permanent nearby source, but there is a water reserve (a cistern of about 1,000 L) on the east side of the hut.

Access is from the forest road above Traverse (often via the hairpin bend, or a little farther after the captured springs). The approach can be hard in spring or when it’s wet, and the combe of the Grande Vaudaine near the hut is private hunting property, so access there is not allowed.
