Cabane des Mails

Cabane des Mails is a small, open mountain shelter in the Asque area (High Pyrenees). It’s a non-guarded refuge intended for hikers to pass the night, with a capacity of about 3 in summer and 3 in winter. The hut has a fireplace and firewood, plus basic cooking capability; it also has solar lighting.

Use is straightforward: it’s free and runs on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Bring your own sleeping bag liner (and food), plan to manage personal cleanup, and follow leave-no-trace principles—especially for fire use (keep the fire under control and extinguish it before leaving). Water availability can vary; there are sources around the shelter, but they may not run when conditions are dry.
