Cabane du Fourneau
Cabane du Fourneau is a free-access backcountry shelter at about 1,130 m in the Belledonne area. It’s an unstaffed refuge for emergency protection from bad weather rather than a serviced, bookable overnight destination.
Inside, it’s very basic: you can find a wood stove, but there are no sleeping platforms or running water, and some parts of the shelter may be run-down.
The shelter is at the end of the road of the Combe de Lancey, about 50 m before a small hydroelectric plant. From Freydières, approach is harder because many marked paths can be hard to follow in the forest.
Water is available nearby from a source behind the stream/at the forest; plan on bringing what you need for sleeping and for managing your own food and waste. g., table/bench or a small mattress) varying over time.
