Cabane forestière de Pré Grandu

Cabane forestière de Pré Grandu is a small, unguided forest hut run by l’Office National des Forêts (ONF) at about 1,365 m, used mainly for group backcountry stays. It has one common room on the ground floor with a wood stove, plus two upstairs dormitories (7 beds and 10 beds) for up to 17 people.

Facilities are basic: dry toilets, no showers, and no piped drinking water. Rainwater is available, and the hut provides mattresses and fitted sheets; bring your own duvet and pillows (only a limited number of wool blankets are available). Cooking is DIY with provided stoves and wood; there’s also photovoltaic lighting. Outdoor fires are prohibited.

Use requires reservation. Access is on foot (including snow travel): in winter, it’s only reachable by ski or snowshoes, and the forest road of la Coche can be closed to traffic; the barrier is at D518. Dogs are not allowed in the nearby nature reserve, which lies right by the hut, and you should not stay parked in front of the refuge (parking is at la Coche, about 400 m down the road).

Rates shown for 2025–2026 run 100–150 € per night depending on group size (1–8 people: 100 €; 9–17 people: 150 €), with local tourist tax not included.
