Cabane forestière de Velouze

Cabane forestière de Velouze is an unstaffed forestry shelter in Isère, set at 1360 m on the eastern flank of the Chaîne de Belledonne. It’s used as a backcountry overnight stop for hikers and winter ski tourers, with a dormitory-style sleeping setup and self-sufficient use (no guardian, no meals, and no running water).

Access is on foot from Engins by following the Vallon de Velouze for about 2 hours, with the track climbing through forest and opening onto alpine meadow near the hut. The shelter is heated by a wood stove and basic cooking is possible; bring a sleeping bag, food, and your own water supplies (and fuel if you’re relying on the stove).
