Cabane forestière du Poyet (ONF)

Cabane forestière du Poyet (ONF) is an unstaffed forest refuge used by ONF staff and also available for hikers who arrive on foot. It sits around 1,610 m in the Taillefer/Matheysine area, managed by ONF Valbonnais.

Inside, expect a wood stove plus a gas burner/cooker setup, with basic kitchen utensils and furniture (table, benches, and berths on stacked platforms). The refuge is set up for sleeping; capacity is typically about 8 people (with 6 mattresses), with no blankets provided.

Plan for self-sufficiency: there’s no latrine at the hut, and water is available very close by (a nearby spring/fontaine source; also a water point tied to Poyet). There’s no reservation system and no keys to request, so access is first-arrival. Wood is replenished by ONF; don’t strip deadwood around the hut—if fuel is low, use only dead wood nearby and avoid starting fires outside. The stove’s interior setup may be a fire-risk point, so use the stove as intended and keep safe clearances.
