Cattle Ridge Hut
Cattle Ridge Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Tararua Forest Park (Wairarapa region). It’s a standard five-bunk hut, run on a first-come, first-served basis with no standard bookings required; you still need to leave a hut ticket in the honesty box for each night you stay.
The hut uses five bunks and has drinking water described as untreated, plus toilet facilities using a pit latrine. To access Cattle Ridge Hut, one common route is from Putara Road end via Roaring Stag Hut (about 6 hr from Putara Road end; Roaring Stag Hut to the hut about 2 hr). Fees are charged per night (adult $10 per night, youth $5 per night, child/infant free) and you must buy a Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night; an unlimited Backcountry Hut Pass also covers most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period.
