Chalet du CAF Contamines

Chalet du CAF Contamines is an alpine backcountry hut run by the CAF in Les Contamines-Montjoie (route du Plan du Moulin). It sits at 1,164 m on the Mont Joly side of the village, facing the Dômes de Miage, and functions as a calm rest stop on both the Tour du Mont Blanc and GR5 before the climb toward the col du Bonhomme.

The chalet has 20 sleeping places in dormitories (4 dormitories totaling 8, 8, 6, and 4 places). You must bring an individual sleeping bag liner/drap sac. During the Tour du Mont Blanc and GR5 trips, bags are not allowed in the dormitories; the hut also does not have a shared kitchen for “hors sac,” and the hut reserves the right to accept only half-board hikers and travelers. Meals are served at 19h. The hut is staffed in winter from 27 December to 31 March (potentially later by reservation) and in summer from 5 June to 19 September 2026; reservations are handled through the hut’s booking process. Caretaker contacts listed for the chalet are Joachim Roman and Anaïs Mattel.

Nearby use patterns include Dômes de Miage and Mont Blanc as target objectives, with the hut positioned close to the Réserve Naturelle des Contamines Montjoie (including the tourbière de la Rosière).
