Chalet du Gros Morond

Chalet du Gros Morond is a backcountry hut run by the Club Alpin Français du Haut-Doubs in the Jura, on the west side of Mont d’Or, near Métabief. It sits close to the skiing areas and also gives quick access to MTB routes in warmer months, while in winter it’s reached by ski de fond, snowshoes, or via ski pistes using the lifts.

Reserve is required in advance for stays. The hut sleeps about 30 (32 beds) in 4 rooms/dormitories, including a main 60-seat common room, and the on-site setup includes central heating, showers, and a vestiaire/séchoir for wet gear. The chalet is supervised on weekends and staffed by volunteers during school holidays; it’s a good base for hikers following GR 5 in summer and the GTJ (Grande Traversée du Jura) in winter.
