Chalet du Langenberg
Chalet du Langenberg is a Club Alpin Français backcountry base on the SE slope of the Ballon d’Alsace at about 1050 m. It’s a hut-style stop for hikers, with a very large network of marked (and unmarked) paths nearby, including the GR5, plus activities like climbing, paragliding, and fishing in summer, and alpine or cross-country skiing in winter.
Use is on a “free management” basis: the hut is staffed on request, and outside of guard periods keys are provided via a code-controlled key box near the entrance. The sleeping setup is 26 beds in 3 dormitories, and if you don’t reserve the whole refuge, other parties may book part of it—keys must be returned to the box after use so others can access the chalet.
