Chalet du Sac

Chalet du Sac is an unstaffed backcountry hut at about 1,381 m on the GR “Balcon du Léman” route in the Haute Chaîne du Jura area. It’s reached on foot, with access also possible from Menthières or the Charnaz parking lot, and use is free with no reservation required.

Inside, there are 6 bunks (mattresses and blankets) and a wood-burning stove in a communal eating/relaxing area. The hut has seating with tables and benches; there’s a rainwater storage/drum that’s emptied in winter, and there’s no running water nearby. Nearby camping is restricted in the Haute Chaîne du Jura nature reserve: avoid any kind of camping, and follow the reserve’s specific rules for bivouacs (temporary camping without tents).
