Route Details

Char Cabin is a backcountry cabin operated by Recreation Sites and Trails BC in the Kootenay Pass area near Creston, British Columbia. It’s a small, user-maintained wilderness hut with a wood stove, fireplace, and a kitchen, and there is no drinking water provided on site (at 1540 m elevation). Use is free and it does not take reservations; it operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Because it’s shared and space is limited, you may want to contact the Kokanee Country Snowmobile Club before heading up, and plan for the possibility it’s already full. The cabin is user-maintained: replace any firewood you use and pack out all garbage; there’s no reservation system, so bring a backup plan for alternate shelter if you arrive at capacity.
