Alpine hut

Chouette is a backcountry shelter on La Traversée de Charlevoix, set up for the thru-hike and half-crossing. It sleeps 15 people and use is by reservation; a fee applies.

Cabins and shelters are typically accessible only as part of the complete crossing or half crossing, but you can book Chouette within 48 hours (or less) of your desired date if you’re not doing the thru-hike. The hut provides mattresses, propane cooking gear (including a 4-burner propane stove and slow-combustion stove), and dry composting toilets; there’s no running water, so treat water from nearby lakes, rivers, or streams. For winter, you may need to cut through ice with an axe or melt snow.

Booking is handled on La Traversée de Charlevoix’s booking platform. Summer rates are $220 per day/group and winter rates are $285 per day/group. For non-deluxe stays, each group brings dish towels, a scrubbing sponge, toilet paper, matches and fire-starter (or newspaper), and a sleeping bag; towels and cleaning/sanitation supplies are otherwise available as provided equipment.
