Cobb Hostel
Cobb Hostel is a Department of Conservation backcountry rental house in Cobb Valley at the bottom end of the Cobb Reservoir, set in Kahurangi National Park (Nelson/Tasman). It’s a base for exploring the area, and the rental is for the whole building (not shared).
Bookings are required. The hostel sleeps 10, with electric lighting plus cooking facilities including an electric oven, pots/pans, and cutlery/utensils, along with a fridge/freezer. Hot water is available, and there’s a flush toilet, shower, and a fireplace.
It operates from October to April depending on weather conditions. Access is via Cobb Dam Road into Cobb Valley; the road is unsealed, narrow, and winding, and the hostel is the first house on the right just before you arrive at the reservoir. Water in the house is untreated and comes from a nearby small stream; wasps and bumble bees can be an issue from February to May, and snow can close the Cobb road at the ridge for days at a time.
