Dr Forbes Hut

Dr Forbes Hut is a heritage river-stone hut in the Geehi area of Kosciuszko National Park, used as emergency shelter for short backcountry stops. Use is free and it operates on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservation system).

The current hut is a single-room gable-roof structure with a verandah overlooking the river, with a chimney made from two 44-gallon drums; it has been rebuilt after the 2003 bushfires. When huts are in use, expect little in the way of facilities and plan to be self-reliant for heating and cooking using the hut’s stove/fireplace provisions.

There is no booking system for this hut; keep a tent with you and be ready to share the hut with others who arrive. For safe hut use, follow heritage-hut etiquette (leave no trace) and be prepared for emergency conditions by carrying appropriate bushwalking/cycling gear.
