Ellis Hut
Ellis Hut is a standard 6-bunk backcountry hut in the Mount Arthur area of Kahurangi National Park (Nelson/Tasman). It’s a first-come, first-served hut—no standard bookings are required—used as a base for backcountry trips in the Nelson/Tasman region.
The hut has a fireplace and mattresses, and there’s a pit latrine. There’s no drinking water provided, and the hut sits at about 1110 m elevation. Access into the Mount Arthur area via Graham Valley Road is steep and narrow, with corrugations and slips; during winter, a 4WD vehicle is recommended for reaching Flora carpark, and chains may be needed with snow and ice. Fees are charged per night (prices run until 30 June 2026) and you should place a Standard Hut Ticket (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass) in the honesty box at the hut.
