Forêt le chatel

Forêt le Châtel is an unstaffed wilderness hut in France (Doubs department) used for backcountry hikers. The hut is a basic shelter geared toward self-sufficiency rather than services: plan to arrive with your own food, water, and sleeping gear.

Fire can be part of the plan here—there is a fireplace. Use is generally free of dedicated advance booking, with the expectation that hikers find space on a first-come, first-served basis.
