Foyer communautaire Jean Devillers
Foyer communautaire Jean Devillers is a backcountry gîte d’étape on the Ballon d’Alsace massif, used as a meeting place and base for mountain leisure. It sits at the junction of the routes from the summit area and Sewen, at the foot of the “Tête des redoutes” ski/piste area and the “Mannheimer” piste.
Use is oriented toward weekends in January through mid-March, when volunteers are present to show the salle hors sac and a kitchen setup for warming meals. Outside that winter period, it’s reserved for groups (including family, associations, and walkers/friends of the Ballon d’Alsace). The building has a large common room, sleeps 19 people, and includes an equipped kitchen plus sanitation (WC, washbasins, and showers). There are 19 places in the week; nightly use is priced at €15, and on weekends the facility can be privatized for €450. The venue also has a “hors-sac” option for eating inside with a free contribution, and regular use includes access to free water.
