Gite de l'Alpe du Grand Serre
Gite de l'Alpe du Grand Serre is a backcountry alpine hut in the Matheysine/near La Morte area, used as a low-frills mountain base for day hikes and longer traverses in the surrounding Alps de Devoluy terrain. It is at about 1,950 m and is reached by foot from the village of Superdévoluy via a forest track with about 500 m of ascent over roughly 2.5 hours.
Use of the gîte is typically in the warmer months: summer access is straightforward, while winter snow closes the road and track for several months. For sleeping, plan for shared and small private rooms (around 30–40 beds total), and expect the hospitality to be functional rather than luxurious; evening meals are available only when booked in advance, and breakfast and packed lunches can be arranged.
To plan your stay, book by contacting the local tourism/booking authority handling the gîte, using your dates and group size; availability is handled directly through them rather than by an online public checkout flow. Phone contact is +33 4 76 40 79 40 and email is location@gites-de-france-isere.com (Gîtes de France Isère / Matheysine Tourisme).
