Holly Hut

Holly Hut is a 32-bunk serviced backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in the Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki / North Egmont area. It’s a base for exploring nearby features such as Ahukawakawa and Te Rere-o-Tahurangi Falls, and it has solar lighting, cold running water from a rainwater tank, and a fireplace with wood supplied.

Booking is required and the hut can be busy between Christmas and New Year, public holidays, and weekends over summer. Fees apply (with Backcountry Hut Passes accepted), and toilets are provided via a containment tank toilet a short walk from the hut, with pit-latrine disposal. Outside the hut there is space for about 10 small tents, first-come-first-served; in winter, access tracks can be muddy or covered in snow, so confirm track conditions before heading in.
