Hunters Hut

Hunters Hut is a standard 8-bunk backcountry hut in Mount Richmond Forest Park (Nelson/Tasman). It’s run by the Department of Conservation, with first come, first served use—no bookings are required.

The hut charges overnight fees: $10 per night for adults (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4). For each night, buy a Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) and put it in the honesty box at the hut; a Backcountry Hut Pass also allows unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for 12 months. Drinking water is untreated, and the hut has a pit latrine and a fireplace.
