Hurricane Hut

Hurricane Hut is a basic 4-bunk hut in Kahurangi National Park (Nelson/Tasman region), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s intended for backcountry overnights and is reached via the Matiri Valley and the 1000 Acre Plateau tramping tracks.

Standard Hut Ticket purchase is required for each night’s stay, with no bookings needed—use follows a first come, first served approach at the hut. Fees apply (adult $10 per night, youth $5 per night, child/infant $0), and you put the required ticket in the honesty box at the hut. Facilities include pit latrine toilets, and the hut provides mattresses and a fireplace; there is no drinking water provided.
