Hurunui Hut
Hurunui Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park (Bay of Plenty). It’s a basic three-bunk hut used for multiday trips in the Tauranga area, with a marked side track that leads to the hut from the North South Track. Use is free and bookings aren’t required—expect first-come, first-served access.
The hut provides three bunk beds and has pit latrines. A short walk off the main track reaches the hut; from Kaimai Summit the approach time is about 2.5 hours. Typical hut trips run about 5–7 days, and the hut’s main access is described with expert-level routes and one-way hard approaches ranging around 2.5–3.5 hours.
