Joe Slatter Hut

Joe Slatter Hut is a backcountry wilderness hut in the Lake St Clair–Mt Rufus area. The hut is maintained by the Wellington Ski Club, and it’s used as a base for backcountry skiing in winter as well as for walkers in warmer months.

The hut sleeps 14 people in bunks. Inside, it has a stove for winter warmth. When conditions are bad or visibility drops, finding the hut at night can be difficult, so it’s worth planning a day-light approach and carrying the gear you’d need for cold, remote conditions.
