Le Tamiset (refuge)

Le Tamiset (refuge) is a non-warded alpine hut used as a backcountry shelter in the French Jura. It’s set up for self-reliant stays: there’s no booking system and use is on a first-come, first-served basis (no fees).

Inside, the hut is sized for about 20 people and includes a wood stove for heating and cooking. A key is kept on a nail above the door, with instructions posted on the door and inside. The layout is split between a main room downstairs and sleeping space upstairs, plus an outbuilding space with tables/chairs and wood stored for winter use.

Practical plan: bring your own sleeping gear (beds/mattresses aren’t assured) and be prepared to manage without nearby water or latrines. The hut also has an outdoor area with a flat space and a campfire spot with log seating.
