Lost Trail Lodge

Lost Trail Lodge is a backcountry alpine hut in Coldstream Canyon near Truckee, California, run as a full-service, whole-lodge style experience. It’s reached by a human-powered approach: about 4 miles over snow in winter, with winter access requiring snow touring gear (touring skis/splitboard with skins or snowshoes for non-skiers).

The stay is reservation-based and centers on renting the facility (with booking options described as whole-lodge or half-lodge). Food service is required as part of the full-service model, with pricing added during booking, and guests are expected to bring their own food only when specifically instructed for that trip format.

For winter safety, the approach follows strict human-powered rules: no snowmobile pick-ups or gear hauls, and guests are required to carry avalanche safety gear (beacon, shovel, and probe). Dogs are allowed with a per-dog per-night fee, and pets may not be left unattended during the stay.
