Lowrie Bay Emergency Shelter
Route Details
Lowrie Bay Emergency Shelter is a wilderness emergency shelter in Cape Scott Provincial Park near the Lowrie Bay area on Vancouver Island. It’s intended as a primitive, self-sufficient shelter for safety in extreme weather and for emergency use, with camping handled on a first-come, first-served basis rather than by booking the shelter itself.
To stay overnight around the shelter, plan on using BC Parks backcountry camping permits (register up to two weeks ahead). Use is first-come, first-served: you’ll need to have your Backcountry Camping Permit in place, and then show up to claim available space. Backcountry camping in Cape Scott involves cold, wet conditions year-round, limited water sources, and extremely slippery boardwalk/trail surfaces when wet—so come equipped to be fully self-sufficient for basic sheltering, cooking, and water treatment.
