Maison Forestière Gîte de Matacharre
Maison Forestière Gîte de Matacharre is a self-managed forest gîte in the Forêt domaniale des Sauvas area near La Roche-des-Arnauds. It’s set up for group use with a 1-dorm layout for up to 12 people, and it sits above the Rif de l'Arc torrent in a secluded spot used for hiking and VTT/other outdoor activities.
Plan around access by car: you reach it via about 3.5 km on a drivable forest track, which is not accessible in winter. It’s open from April through November, and you’ll need to bring your own sleeping liner/bag (no bedding/laundry is provided) as well as food and cleaning supplies; the unit is not run as a serviced full-board hut. The base rate is 130 €/night (with a lower rate starting from the 3rd night), and stays are handled through the Office de Tourisme Sources du Buëch reservation process.
Inside, the gîte has a kitchen/living area on the main level and a 12-couch dorm upstairs. Sanitary facilities (sinks/showers and WC) are in the basement and are accessed from the outside, with energy provided by a wood stove plus solar power for lighting; phone reception can be weak and there’s no Wi‑Fi.
