McConchies Hut

McConchies Hut is a standard 4-bunk hut in Kahurangi National Park, run by the Department of Conservation for backcountry tramping use. It’s set up for first-come, first-served stays—no bookings required. The hut requires a Standard Hut Ticket for each night in the honesty box, or use a Backcountry Hut Pass that covers most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period.

Inside, it has a mattress and a fireplace. Drinking water is untreated, and toilets are a pit latrine. Access to the hut is via the Matiri Valley and the 1000 Acre Plateau tramping tracks.
