Nomash Slab
Nomash Slab, also known as Dale Earnhardt Dome, is a remote granite climbing formation near Zeballos in the Haihte Range. The area is characterized by long, technical multi-pitch slab routes, with most of the climbing bolt-protected and equipped with bolted anchors and rappel stations.
Named objectives include Wapiti Mainline, Forever, Taladega Highbank, Full Throttle, Snake and Bake, and Hummingbird. Wapiti Mainline is 13 pitches at 5.11 or 5.10 A0; Forever runs 11 pitches at 5.10d; and Hummingbird climbs nearly 400 metres in 15 pitches at 5.11c, or 5.10c A0.
Access is an expedition-style undertaking: drive via Highway 19 and the Zeballos junction, continue on the gravel Zeballos Forest Service Road and Nomash Main, then approach from Nathan Creek near a removed bridge. The final approach is about 3 km on foot to the base, with remote camping below the slab or near the end of Nomash Main.
