Poor Pete's Hut

Poor Pete's Hut is a basic two-bunk backcountry hut in Kahurangi National Park, operated by the Department of Conservation. It’s set up for straightforward overnight use on the Matiri Valley and 1000 Acre Plateau tramping tracks—basic, first come first served, with no bookings required.

Sleeping and sanitation are simple: it has mattresses and a pit latrine toilet. Drinking water is untreated, and there’s no fireplace. Use is free.
