Porters Creek hut

Porters Creek Hut is a standard 6-bunk backcountry hut in Mount Richmond Forest Park (Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough). It’s part of the Te Araroa Trail, and use is first come, first served with no standard bookings required; bring a hut ticket for each night you stay and place it in the honesty box at the hut. Fees apply (adult $10 per night to 30 June 2026; youth $5 per night to 30 June 2026; children/infants under 5/4 stay for free).

Inside, the hut provides sleeping gear (mattresses) and has a fireplace, with toilets on site using a pit latrine. Drinking water is not available—plan to carry enough for your overnight and next day.
