Premier chalet de la Grande Valloire

Premier chalet de la Grande Valloire is a small, free mountain shelter (cabane non gardée) in the Belledonne area, used for backcountry overnights by ski tourers and hikers. It sits around 1,837 m and is approached on foot from the Parking le Grand Thiervoz area, following the Grande Valloire track along the stream before finishing with a trail up to the chalet.

Inside, expect a very basic setup: a wood stove, a flat-stone table, and sleeping on raised mattresses on a mezzanine; bedding covers are not provided. Sleeping is limited (about 3–4 people depending on how you fit), and the shelter is unmanaged—plan for first-come, first-served use rather than booking.

Water is typically available nearby at the Fontaine de la Grande Valloire. There are also short options to reach other nearby water points in the same valley system, but treat water availability as variable when conditions are dry or during winter.
