Premier Chalet de la Petite Valloire
Premier Chalet de la Petite Valloire is a non-staffed mountain hut on the Belledonne massif (1542 m). It’s a free-access backcountry cabane built for overnight stops rather than a serviced refuge, with sleeping space for up to 12 people on mattresses. Use is first-come, first-served with no reservation system.
Inside, you’ll find a wood stove and a basic kitchen setup (tables/bencies, a range of pots/pans in small numbers, and a few tools such as a broom/shovel and a saw/hatchet). A sleeping area is provided on an upper loft with mattresses and some blankets. Water can be scarce: community reports mention that the nearby fountain may be dry or not flowing, so plan to carry enough or have a backup source nearby.
Access from the Grand Thiervoz / Hameau du Cley side is by hiking up the trail toward Chalet de la Fouetterie; on the way, you can reach this first chalet (it sits in the same cluster of “chalet de la Petite Valloire” options). If this chalet is full, the upper option along the same approach is Chalet de la Fouetterie (also non-staffed).
