Refuge d'Argentière

Refuge d'Argentière is a Club Alpin Français backcountry hut in the Mont Blanc area, set at 2,771 m on the right bank of the Argentière glacier. The refuge is positioned for glacier and high-alpine objectives in the Argentière/Chamonix sector, serving as a base for multiple routes from simple glacier travel to more technical climbing and ski touring.

It has 94 sleeping places in the summer season. In winter, there is a winter room with 16 places, and the hut is not staffed outside the guarded periods; during unguarded time, use is by staying in the accessible “winter refuge” portion and you should plan conservatively (including avalanche rescue gear once mountain snow begins). The operator is Club Alpin Français, with a winter guarding window from early March to early May and a summer guarding window from mid-June to mid-September.

Access is via glacier travel after reaching the Grands Montets area by cable car: take the descent of the glacier des Rognons and cross the glacier d'Argentière (about 1.5–2 hours). Another approach is from the refuge de Lognan via the glaciers d'Argentière and the moraine des Rognons (about 900 m of descent, 3–4 hours).
