Alpine hut

Refuge de Chavan is an alpine backcountry hut at 1,600 m in Chavan (Bellevaux), renovated and cared for by Claudius Félisaz. It provides 14 beds and is set up for hikers who want a guided-style refuge stop rather than a staffed village lodging.

The hut runs with water and latrines on site, and it has no shower facilities. Access from Bellevaux goes via the parking area at Plan des Rasses, leaving the main track for a left-hand trail for about 1 hour and 400 m of ascent; there is also a longer approach via Mégevette – Tête des Follys – Col de Chavannais (about 4 hours and roughly 1,000 m of ascent).

For planning: the refuge is open daily from 1 May 2026 to 31 October 2026, and a stay carries a local tourist tax of 0.80 €/night per adult (over 17). Reservations are handled directly with the keeper by phone: +33 4 50 73 09 35 or +33 9 88 99 63 79.
