Refuge de La Pra

Refuge de La Pra is a backcountry refuge operated by the Club Alpin Français in the Belledonne (Revel Alpes) area at 2105 m. It sits as a stop on the GR 738, the high traverse of Belledonne from Chamrousse, and is used as a base for exploring the surrounding summits and lakes (including Grand Colon, the Doménon lakes, Croix de Belledonne, and Grande Lauzière).

The refuge has 76 sleeping places and offers a staffed period in summer from 5 June to 27 September 2026, with winter guarding from 20 February to 11 April 2026. The refuge provides water and toilets, and has WC and sink facilities in individual cabins. Meals are served with a lunchtime service (12:00–14:00), an evening meal served at 19:00 (fixed menu), and drinks available for purchase; reservations are used during the guarded period. It’s also possible to sleep as a bivouac option (see the refuge’s bivouac page on the official site).

During winter, the entrance is on the south side of the old building; it includes dry toilets and beds/blankets, but there is no gas or stove, so plan for a stove and a warm sleeping bag. If you’re staying outside the guarded period, the site also references lodging arrangements for non-guarded time (including 18 sleeping places in 1 dormitory). Visitors should also plan to take out their own personal waste back to the valley, and follow the refuge’s quiet hours (silence requested from 22:00).
