Refuge de l'Oriol de Sainte-Marguerite
Refuge de l'Oriol de Sainte-Marguerite is a backcountry mountain refuge in the Écrins/Queyras area, set at 2026 m. It’s run by a warden you can contact by phone or email to arrange a stay, and it’s built for hikers doing longer itineraries through this part of the Alps.
Capacity is listed at 19 people. Use is seasonal: it’s typically open from late June to early September, with potential group openings from late May through October on request. For access, there are multiple approaches: from the village of Sainte-Marguerite via the marked “kilomètre vertical (KV)” route (about 800 m of ascent), or drive to Sainte-Marguerite and continue by track to the parking near Le Clôt du Baudet (around 1600 m), then walk the remaining 400 m of ascent; there’s also a longer alternative using the GR58 variant via Arvieux and the lacs de Néal and lacs de l’Ascension.
