Alpine hut

Refuge de Maupas is a FFCAM backcountry hut in the Cirque des Crabioules area above the Vallée du Lys. It’s set up around a single dormitory for 30 people (bunks in three sections), and the guarded period includes meals and drinking water, with blankets/duvets provided and the possibility of heating and electricity during that time.

During the guarded season (6 June to 27 September 2026), the refuge is run as a dormitory stop with catering; outside that period it operates unguarded, so no meals and no running water are provided, though the shelter area remains accessible. Booking for stays is managed by the refuge in advance: online reservations are not available within 48 hours of arrival, and last-minute booking is handled by phone; groups of more than 5 are handled by phone (or by email in the off-season).

The hut facilities are basic: no shower room or bathroom, a cold water point, and an outside WC. For approach, it’s commonly accessed from the car park at the bottom of the Lys valley via the ascent through forests, meadows, and lakes, taking about 4–4h30 with roughly 1300 m of ascent.
