Refuge des Bannettes
Refuge des Bannettes is an unstaffed backcountry hut in the Chartreuse mountains area, used as a free-access mountain shelter where you sleep on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations). It sits at about 1,740 m and provides room for 10 people, with a wood/coal stove for heating and basic cooking gear.
For overnight stays, plan to be fully self-sufficient: you bring your own firewood, pack out all trash, and leave the hut clean. Drinking water is available from a nearby natural spring, but it can be unreliable or freeze in winter; there are toilets and a fireplace/stove, while there’s no shower and no internet access.
